Imaging and Scientific Support

Hub between science and technology

The Imaging and Scientific Support Core plays an important role in helping new research groups get started when they join the institute. The team supports scientists not only with organizational matters but also with a wide range of technical challenges.

Its members come from diverse scientific and technical backgrounds, which allows them to offer expertise across many areas. They are well connected within the institute and also maintain strong ties with various departments of the Max Planck Society in Munich.

Their work often involves close collaboration with other service units. For example, they work with the electronics workshop to design microprocessor circuits. They also develop the software that runs on microcontrollers and program user-friendly graphical interfaces when those systems need to interact with a computer.

Another area of their expertise is in magnetic resonance applications. Here, they help design and evaluate electrodes and coils, ensuring that these components are well suited for their specific use.

In addition to development work, the team also takes care of essential technical maintenance tasks, such as refilling the magnets of the institute’s MRTs with helium, helping to ensure that the systems keep running reliably.
