Communications Core

Interface between basic research and the public

Science communication is more than just passing on research results. It is a multifaceted process that includes both public dialogue about science and communication within the scientific community. Science communication can take place on TV, in print and social media, or as part of public roadshows. It can even contribute to the generation of new insights.

Our goal is to make science more accessible, build trust, and spark curiosity. Based on this understanding, our team sees itself as a bridge between science and the public. We translate complex content into formats that are accessible and relevant for different audiences, whether through news services, print publications, podcasts, videos, or social media. We also develop educational formats for young people and adults, initiate science outreach projects, and design participatory opportunities that foster dialogue. Internal communication via intranet platforms and websites is also part of our work, because good communication starts at your own organization.

Another key aspect of our work is supporting scientific symposia, organizing public-facing information events, and offering guided lab tours tailored to specific interests and age groups.

We work closely with the central communications department and other divisions of the Max Planck Society and collaborate on internal and external projects of overarching importance. This includes, as one example, the regular report to the Scientific Advisory Board, whose members comprise leading researchers from world-renowned international institutions.
