Main Focus

My main research focus is the study of multiscale interplay between brain and behavior. To this end, I develop neurotechnological systems to 1) simultaneously measure the dynamics of neurotransmitters, physiological signals and BOLD in vivo and 2) simultaneously measure animal physiology, behavior and neural activity in social environment during their entire lifespan. Furthermore, I use concepts originated from statistical mechanics, soft-matter physics, dynamical systems, differential and algebraic geometry and non-linear analysis to understand the observed processes in more detail. These approaches allow us to not only understand behavioral patterns in the context of their underlying biology but also to predict and prevent disease onset and prediction.

Curriculum Vitae

Dr Hamid Noori received his PhDs in mathematics and physics from Universities of Heidelberg and Kaiserslautern and was honoured with Venia Legendi from the Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University as well. In 2008, he moved to Princeton University and focused his research on the interface of experimental and theoretical neurosciences. In the years 2013-2016, he worked as a group leader in the Central Institute of Mental Health. He is currently an Associate Professor and the Head of the independent research group Neuronal Convergence of the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics. He also occupies honorary professorships at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques and Courant Institute for Mathematical Sciences of New York University. He is a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and research affiliate in the McGovern Institute for Brain Research in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. He received the Manfred Fuchs award for his pioneering work on neurobiology and cybernetics in 2017. Dr Hamid Noori was further awarded with the Ursula M Haendel award of the German Science Foundation and the DGPPN (German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics) award for excellence in research of psychiatric diseases in 2018 and the Fred Yates award of the Society for the Study of Addiction for Researcher of the Year in 2019.
