Main Focus
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) uses magnetic induciton to induce electric fields, which can alter brain function. Although TMS is widely used in neuroscience, little is know about the strength and shape of the electric field and how it is connected to the observable effects of TMS.
My primary reaserch goal is to further develop methods for simulating these electric fields using realitic head models and systematically validating them against the results of TMS experiments.
Further I aim at developing non-invasive MRI-based methods for measuring the impedance of head tissue.
Finally, the electric field simulations carry the potential to largly improve the spatial specificity of not only TMS, but also of EEG, MEG and TCS.
