Main Focus

The Dynamic Cognition group conducts cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychology research of the mechanisms of adaptive behavior in dynamic environments. Key research areas include temporal cognition, temporal dynamics of cognitive functions such as learning, prediction, attention and motor preparation and their interaction with temporal representation, and the role of subcortical structures, especially the cerebellum and basal ganglia, in these processes.

Curriculum Vitae

Assaf Breska received his BA in Psychology and Cognitive Sciences in 2007 and MA in Cognitive Neuropsychology in 2010 from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, studying mechanisms of attention and awareness with Leon Deouell. He received his PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience in 2015, also from the Hebrew University, studying oscillatory and non-oscillatory mechanisms of temporal prediction with Leon Deouell. In parallel he studied computational models of physiological orienting responses with Gershon Ben-Shakhar. From 2015 to 2021 Assaf was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, where he worked on subcortical mechanisms of temporal attention and of motor learning with Rich Ivry. He received the Hebrew University Presidential excellence award for his PhD studies, and the Rothschild fellowship from the Yad Hanadiv foundation for his postdoctoral work.
