Ultralow Field Magnetic Resonance utilizing continuous Overhauser dynamic nuclear Poalrization

ODNP (Overhauser dynamic nuclear Polarization) is a hyperpolarization technique, which works best at magnetic fields in the mT-range. At those fields, the penetration depth of the excitation pulse, needed to induce the hyperpolarization, is high enough to irradiate a sufficient sample volume.
In combination with a SQUID-based ultralow field (ULF) System, this technique provides enough signal to perform three-dimensionally resolved magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans at static magnetic fields up to a few mT.
The low-cost setup is used to develop biocompatible free radicals, needed to perform in-vivo continuous ODNP measurements. The goal of the Project is to perform first in-vivo ULF-MRI scans, using continuous ODNP, so that the enhancement provided by the hyperpolarization technique is high enough to achieve signal to noise ratios, comparable to conventional MRI scanners operating at 1T.
