Main Focus
We think of the brain as a predictive organ which tries and minimize processing costs via generating expectations. For instance, when you are exposed to music and speech, your brain predicts the when and what of next sound events. These predictions are the result of neural computations happening at different temporal and spatial scales and the complex interaction between bottom-up and top-down modulatory signals.
In my research, I specifically focus on oscillatory electrophysiological signals in the brain and try to understand how neural waves encode and predict temporal regularities in the sensory environment, thus allowing us to detect, produce and synchronize with external rhythms in an adaptive manner.
My studies further explore the functional link between biological rhythms (i.e. respiratory and cardiac activity) and endogenous neural activity: do body-brain interactions modulate E/I balance in the brain, information processing, perception and action?
