Main Focus
My research applies computational modelling to understand human decision-making and how it breaks down. In computational psychiatry, I study why decision-making goes awry in disorders such as obsessive–compulsive disorder, where excessive information-gathering tips into indecision; by modelling behaviour as a sequential decision process, I aim to identify the computational signatures that distinguish clinical from healthy choice and could inform diagnosis and intervention. In parallel, I develop frameworks for hierarchical decision-making, drawing on layered control architectures from engineering to understand how people decompose complex tasks across levels and timescales. I use tools from Bayesian inference, optimal control, and dynamical systems - and, coming from aerospace engineering and control theory, I am driven by the two-way link between understanding the brain and building intelligent machines.
