Language and Integration

While many people in Tuebingen can speak at least Basic English, being able to communicate in German will open new doors for your life in Germany.

German classes on Max Planck Campus Tübingen

Vivat Lingua offers courses on MPI Campus that are specially designed for scientists and academic staff where no prior knowledge is necessary. They focus on communication in everyday life and at work. They also give an introduction to German and Swabian culture. If you are interested in participating in language courses, the course costs might be reimbursable during the first half of your stay here. To ask if this is possible and how you can later be reimbursed, contact Jacqueline Link respectively Jihen Bou-Sandal.

Unfortunately, there is no refund from the MPI for guests, hiwis and interns.

The Websites can be found here:

FYI: For the reimbursement of German courses for scientists/PhD students please note the following:

  • reimbursement will only be made retrospectively
  • certificate of attendance is mandatory
  • invoice is mandatory

The confirmation of payment is not sufficient for reimbursement. The invoice is additionally required.

If you are considering taking German lessons, Vivat Lingua can help you figure out the level that you are at and tell you more about course availability.
