Registration with the City
Everyone who lives in Germany is required to register their address with the authorities.
For your registration, you will need:
• Your passport + visa (if applicable)
• Confirmation from your landlord: “Wohnungsgeberbestätigung”
• (families moving together) passports of all family members
Where?
Generally international residents in Tübingen can register at the Bürgerbüro Stadtmitte (Schmiedtorstr. 4) and at any of its branch offices.
You will need to sign up for an appointment to register your address. Go to:
https://tempus-termine.com/termine/index.php?anlagennr=107
and select the appropriate number of persons next to “Anmeldung in Tübingen aus dem Ausland und der EU” if you are moving to Tübingen from abroad, or next to “Anmeldung in Tübingen inkl. Adressänderung im Ausweis/Pass” if you are moving to Tübingen from elsewhere in Germany. You will then be able to select an appointment.
The booking tool allows you to book appointments at all branch offices of the city hall. Please check carefully at which branch office you booked your appointment so you don’t accidentally end up going to the wrong address! Make sure to bring your appointment number as well so you’ll know to which desk to go.
If you change address later, you must reregister with your new address within two weeks.
Residence Permit
If you are going to work in Germany or stay in Germany for longer than three months and are not an EU/ EEC citizen, you will need to apply for a residence permit at your local Immigration Office (in Tübingen: Bei der Fruchtschranne 5) to allow you to stay in Germany after your visa expires.
To apply for a residence permit, different documents are needed depending on what you are doing at the institute. The International Office can help you gather the correct documents for your application.
To apply for a residence permit, you will need to fill in the application form on the following website:
https://www.tuebingen.de/antrag_aufenthaltstitel#/#bueOverview
Generally, employees at the institutes will need an appointment for the category "Aufenthalt für die Erwerbstätigkeit” (residence permit for employment).
After reviewing your application the immigration office will give you an appointment for a short in-person meeting to complete your application.
The immigration office requests that you apply for your residence permit no earlier than 3 months before your visa expires.
