The Breska Lab at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics invites applications for
2 fully funded PhD (65% E13 TVöD) positions
to study human dynamic cognition, with a flexible starting date in October 2022 or later.
Who we are: To understand the neural and cognitive mechanisms of adaptive behavior in dynamic environments, our group investigates temporal cognition and its interaction with various cognitive functions. Projects focus on:
- temporal prediction, attention, and consciousness
- interval and rhythm timing
- temporal learning and memory
- the role of oscillatory and non-oscillatory neural dynamics
- the roles of the cerebellum and basal ganglia and their interactions with cortical circuits
What we offer: PhD positions are for three years with the possibility of extension. Lab members have the opportunity to develop their research agenda within the lab research domains, and train in various methodologies we employ, including psychophysics, computational modelling, human M/EEG, non-invasive brain stimulation, and neuropsychological research with neurological populations. Successful candidates will enroll with the doctoral program of the Neuroscience Graduate Training Centre or International Max Planck Research School in Tübingen, and join our vibrant neuroscientific research community, where they will have the opportunity to participate in local and international collaborations.
What we are looking for: Candidates should hold a degree (MA / MSc) in psychology, cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience, or a related discipline, and must be proficient in English. We seek candidates who are interested in psychological processes and their neural basis, are interested in the lab’s research domains, have experience and designing and performing cognitive psychology/neuroscience experiments, and strive to develop as rigorous and theoretically motivated scientists. We especially encourage applications from researchers with experience in M/EEG or neuropsychological research. Scientific programming skills (MATLAB, Python or R) are an advantage. German language skills are not necessary.
