The Max Planck Research Group on “Computational Principles of Intelligence” (PI: Eric Schulz) at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics and the Max Planck Research Group on “Autonomous Learning” (PI: Georg Martius) at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen, Germany, are looking to fill a

jointly-funded Postdoctoral Position (m/f/d)
to work on Computational Theories of Curiosity in Humans and Machines.

The position will last for a minimum of two years and an extension for two more years is possible.

About this position: 

We are looking for a postdoc to join our labs working on theories of curiosity in humans and machines, starting in April 2021 (starting date is negotiable). This is a joint position as part of a bigger project to work “Towards a Science of Curiosity” funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in cognitive science, statistics, computer science, or any other computational field. Experience with behavioral, compu- tational or machine learning methods (especially in robotics) and a record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings are required. We are looking for a candidate who can bridge cognitive science and machine learning to work towards models of curiosity in free exploration tasks. Candidates should be keen to co-supervise students and become an essential part of a bigger project involving 3 PIs and 3 PhD-students in total.
