Symposium, Science Slam and Open Day: The Max Planck Day in Tübingen
The Max Planck Institutes for Developmental Biology, for Biological Cybernetics and for Intelligent Systems as well as the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory presented themselves to the public on two consecutive days for the so-called Max Planck Day.
The event kicked-off on Friday afternoon with a symposium on 'Artificial Intelligence and Society' organized by the MPI for Intelligent Systems. In the evening, the local institutes invited to a Science Slam. Four young scientists presented their topics in short and entertaining slots, moderated by comedian and TV presenter Helge Thun. Almost 300 visitors were visibly amused by the quick-wittedness of the slammers. Subsequently, the entire campus was extensively illuminated and artfully staged with artificial light projections from various fields of research. With musical accompaniment, the guests had the opportunity to discuss their research with the scientists.
The following Saturday, the Max Planck Campus opened its doors to all those interested in research. During tours, exhibitions, hands-on activities and lectures, more than 1000 visitors were able to learn about topics such as genetics, evolution, virtual reality, brain research and artificial intelligence. There was also a colorful children's program and culinary delights from all over the world.
