Research
  • Academic: My main scientific interests are the theoretical analysis of learning processes, using methods from statistics and functional analysis. In particular, I have recently been working on novel types of concentration inequalities and on new ways of characterizing the generalization ability of learning algorithms in terms of their stability.
  • Applied: My main topic of interest in applied reasearch is the design of learning algorithms that can interact with a human user in a simple and efficient way. The idea is to extract knowledge from the user in a natural way. In particular, this requires to adapt existing algorithms (or develop specific ones) to the user's goals and constraints.
