RF Pulses - Sinc pulse

Finally, the motion of magnetization during shaped excitation pulses. Below is a simulation with a sinc-shaped pulse with 30° flip angle, and a refocusing gradient lobe. The final magnetization is mainly located at the 30° position, some magnetization is located at smaller flip angles (corresponding to the flip angle profile of a truncated sinc pulse).

The slice profile depends on the nominal flip angle, since there is no linear relation between the pulse shape and slice profile. The 90° sinc pulse below produces a different profile as the 30° pulse.

This is the end of the spin zoo tour. As soon as we discover new quirks of the spin life we will put it on these pages.
