Position: PhD Student  Unit: Bülthoff

My dissertation is part of an interdisciplinary project that studies body representations by integrating expert perspectives from neuroscience, medicine, computer science, and philosophy. The goal of my research is to understand visual factors that contribute to one’s representation of the physical body. I use virtual reality equipment to provide realistic visual stimuli, such as one’s visual body, and manipulate those in controlled ways, like shape and size of one’s body, that would not be possible in the real world. In my PhD project, I am using a novel technology of biometric-based avatars to study mechanisms related to body representations in healthy people and its distortions in eating and weight disordered individuals.
