Die laufende Forchung meiner Arbeitsgruppe fokussiert auf die Entwicklung „schlauer“ (funktionelle Bildgebung) und zielspezifischer (anatomische Bildgebung) Kontrastmittel für die Magnetresonanztomographie (MRT).

 

Solche „schlauen“ Kontrastmitteln (engl.: smart contrast agents) wechselwirken mit Ionen und Molekülen, welche Grundlage neuronaler Aktivität sind. Die magnetischen Eigenschaften dieser neuen Kontrastmittel ändern sich durch die Interaktion mit den Ionen/Moleküle, was die Visualisierung neuronaler Aktivität im MRT erlaubt. Die erfolgreiche Entwicklung solcher funktionellen Marker wird zu neuen MRT Methoden führen.

 

Zielspezifische Kontrastmitteln besitzen einen Ligand, der Wechselwirkungen mit Rezeptoren bzw. mit Membrabproteinen eingehen kann. Hierzu werden mitunter Subpopulationen von Neuronen genetisch verändert, damit sie entsprechende Membranproteine exprimieren. Eine solche Selektion von Nervenzellegruppen könnte strukturspezifische Beobachtung von plastischen Änderungen im Gehirn mit hoher räumlicher Auflösung erlauben.

 

Unsere Hauptinteressen sind:

  • Synthese „schlauer“ MRT Kontrastmittel; mithilfe neuer synthetischer Methoden zur Funktionalisierung und Derivatisierung von makrocyklischen Chelatoren für paramagnetische Metalionen.
  • Untersuchung von koordinativen und physio-chemischen Aspekten, welche verantwortlich für die MRT Signaländerungen sind.
  • Methodenentwicklung für die in vitro und in vivo Charakterisierung neuer Kontrastmittel.
