Bachelor/Master thesis: Orienation and social distance

Objects and virtual humans (avatars) oriented towards an observer are perceived as closer. We want to examine whether this effect is based on potential future interactions or a general effect of oriented objects/avatars. Results will reveal how social factors expressed in observable behavior affect spatial perception to guide future actions.

Experiments will be conducted using a virtual reality setup. The master thesis will involve preparing, conducting and analyzing experiments within this setup. Candidates should be self motivated and interested in cognitive science questions. Some experience in programming and good English skills are welcome, but not required. Thesis (and working) language can be English or German.
This work is conducted in collaboration with The University of Tokyo.
