Old Setup of the Bicycle Simulator
The old setup of the bicycle simulator included a modified exercise bicycle and a stereoscopic
front projection (resolution: 1280x492 pixels). The main purpose of the reduced setup was to
optimize the quality of the visual display of the virtual environment
in order to increase the perceived degree of "realism" of the (visual) virtual world. Another
reason to start with just one projection screen was that it is easier to deal problems of
real-time computation. The stereoscopic projection could be replaced by a normal front
projection (resolution: 1280x1024 pixels). A Multiscan Projector from Sony (with a fast
decaying green phosphor for stereoscopic projection) was used to project the scene onto a
projection screen (2.5m x 2m).
