HiWi/Student Assistant (40-80h/month) or Research Assistant for cognitive task programming in Python

Stellenangebot vom 5. März 2024

The newly established Cognitive Neuroscience & Neurotechnology group led by Dr. Romy Lorenz is looking for an enthusiastic student assistant or research assistant to support our growing lab at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen, Germany.

Our lab focuses on advancing our understanding of the frontoparietal brain network mechanisms that underpin high-level cognition and adaptive behaviour. For this, we pursue an interdisciplinary research programme that allows studying this brain system at multiple levels of granularity. Our methodology involves subject-specific brain-computer interface technology, fMRI at 3T and ultrahigh (i.e., 7T and 9.4T) magnetic field strengths (for resolving cortical layers), EEG, non-invasive brain stimulation as well as machine learning. You can find out more about our work at:    https://www.kyb.tuebingen.mpg.de/711763/cognitive-neuroscience-neurotechnology

The position:

  • You will programme a battery of different cognitive tasks suitable for fMRI experimentation as well as behavioural web-based experiments
  • You will build upon existing code but mainly write new scripts in Python using PsychoPy
  • You will develop a robust code infrastructure enabling precise control and adaptation of these cognitive tasks (incl. important parameters like task difficulty) for closed-loop experimentation in brain-computer interface applications

Your profile:

  • HiWi/Student Assistant: Currently enrolled master’s students at a German university in cognitive (neuro)science, computer science, biomedical or electrical engineering, physics, mathematics or related disciplines
  • Research Assistant: If you are currently not enrolled at a German university or are applying from abroad, we can also discuss the possibility of a position as research assistant
  • Strong programming skills in Python are required
  • Prior experience with developing cognitive task batteries or PsychoPy is desirable but not necessary
  • Experience with code sharing platforms (e.g. GitHub) is desirable

We offer:

  • HiWi/Student Assistant: Part-time and paid student job (13.03 €/hour) up to 10-20 hours per week
  • Research Assistant: Salary is paid in accordance with the collective agreement for the public sector
  • Flexible working arrangements and possibility to participate in seminars, talks etc. offered by the Institute

The Max Planck Society seeks to employ more people with disabilities and strongly encourages them to apply. Furthermore, we actively support the compatibility of work and family life. The Max Planck Society strives for gender equality and diversity.

The position is available from May 2024 on and will remain open until filled. Please send your application containing a short motivation letter, CV, certificates/transcript of records, and desired starting date as a single PDF file with the subject line “Application for HiWi-1: task battery” to Dr. Romy Lorenz (romy.lorenz@tuebingen.mpg.de). Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis.
